Each month, I interview authors or publishing insiders who have some form of "James" in their names or in their books. My February James Gang interviewee is Wild Rose Press author Jill James!

1. Let's get the most important question asked first: Why James?

My husband is a police officer, so he nicely asked me not to use our married name; besides that name was already a romance author in Ireland. I really didn't want to use my maiden name; I had been happy to get the married one. So we sat and brainstormed what name I could use. I asked him, "If I didn't already have a name, what do I look like?" He answered, "You look like a Jill." Since my father had just passed away when we were having this conversation, I added his first name to it and got Jill James.

2. What fiction genre(s) and/or sub-genre(s) do you write?

Always romance. I write contemporary romance and paranormal romance. Someday I would like to try my hand at writing romantic suspense and historical romance.

3. Tell us about your latest release.

My latest release is Divorce, Interrupted, Book 1 in the "Second Chances" series.

4. Is there a core story and/or a theme(s) in your books?

The theme of all my romantic stories is that there is someone waiting to fall in love with you, just around the corner. I truly believe just because you haven't fallen in love yet doesn't mean you won't. Love is like fate, it will find you when you least expect it.

5. Do you have a favorite hero and/or heroine in your books and why?

My favorite hero and heroine are usually whoever I'm writing about today. That said, I do love Adam and Yvette in my first book, Tempting Adam. That was my first time to write a kick-butt, take-charge heroine, and I love her.

6. What do you enjoy most about being an author?

I love taking the dreams and stories in my head and seeing them come to life on the page. I love that reading, my favorite hobby, is necessary for research. And I love doing my job in a sweatsuit and a scrunchie in my hair.

8. How do you promote your books and your author brand?

9. What is your next project?

Projects!! I'm working on a sequel to Tempting Adam to submit to The Wild Rose Press. I'm working on self-publishing Someone To Trust shorter and A Family Again, Book 3 next month. And my first self-published paranormal romance, Love in the Time of Zombies by March.

10. Do you have a bit of wisdom you'd like to impart or a favorite quote?

"You can't edit a blank page." -- [a quote] paraphrased (many times) from Nora Roberts. From me: "Don't let anyone stand in the way of your dreams. Only you can stop you from reaching them."
